MAC OS 9 ADSL ETHERNET SETUP

NOTE: Earlier Mac OS should be able to use Ethernet as well . The configuration should be the same only the presentation box layout slightly different.

Having first set your modem up as a DHCP ROUTER, set up the Mac:

Goto Apple > Control Panels > TCP/IP:

Select Connect via Ethernet

Configure Using DHCP Server

In Name server addr.: box you need not put anything but if you have problems resolving DNS (i.e. surfing) put the ISP DNS Servers in there.

Click Options:

Tick Load only when needed.

Click OK

Click on Close Square (Top LH Corner)

SAVE Configuration.

Goto Apple > Control Panels > Appletalk: (You will see a different picture than this. You want the highlighted items.)

Select Connect via: Ethernet

Click on Close Square (Top LH Corner)

SAVE Configuration.

Re-Boot.

When rebooted, Open TCP/IP AGAIN:

NOTE: The DHCP modem has filled in the machine stuff (in this case it's an Alcatel 510 modem having IP Address 10.0.0.138 and it has given the Mac an IP Address 10.0.0.2, Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0 and this machine is a G4)

Yours WILL be different like 192.X.X.X, iMAC, etc.

YOU SHOULD NOW BE ABLE TO CONNECT AND SURF WHEN YOU OPEN A BROWSER OR A MAILER.
